The South Dakota Highway Patrol and Game Fish and Parks sill use Analog Mobile Extenders IE Hand held radios. A repeater in a patrol car transfers the analog signal to digital, and transmits in on the TRS system. The reverse is true for receiving information from dispatch. If you are close to a HP or GF&P unit will will be able to hear dispatch and the mobile unit.

Note:The extenders run on low power 3-5 watts at best. Same goes for the transmitter from the car to the extender. Range is probab1y 1 mile maybe 2 at best.

1. The scene-of-action frequencies “National Fire” (or FERN), “Mutual Aid 1” (or MAID1), and “Mutual Aid 2” (or MAID2) are retained for wideband use.

2. When used in narrowband, these frequencies follow the FCC naming convention of “VFIRE21”, “VFIRE22”, and “VFIRE23”, respectively.

3. In keeping with the FCC recommendations, all “V-frequencies” use 156.7 PL on transmit, and possibly on receive at user discretion.
