The Cheyenne Fire Dept., is in the process of converting to the WyoLink TRS. Currently, this system is being converted over as Site-102 on WyoLink, and is presently operating as a split system. However, once all of the radios are replaced or reprogrammed, this system will be fully transformed to the WyoLink TRS.

This system is being upgraded to a 9600 baud, Project 25 subsystem that will operate on the WyoLink matrix. Complete conversion to the new system is expected by this time next year, or sooner if federal grant money can be obtained to procure the needed equipment, in a more expedient manner. When completed, the old analog system will be deactivated.

As of November 22, 2004, the new Motorola Astro trunked system is in use. Although the system is capable handling both analog and digital traffic, only analog is being used for the time being. So far, only the Cheyenne Fire Department uses the system. Other city agencies/departments are expected to switch to it as their budgets allow.

The system went live on October 14, 2004. Range testing is currently underway and is being conducted in analog mode so far. Expect more testing and users to come online over the next few weeks.

The City of Cheyenne has signed a contract with Motorola for a Project 25 compliant, digital trunked radio system. The system is currently being installed with work scheduled to be completed around October 2004.

The Cheyenne FD now uses a conventional 800 MHz repeater on 866.225 MHz. Talks continue towards the procurement of an EDACS ProVoice system.

The Cheyenne Fire Dept. stopped using the SMR system on Aug 1, 02. The city has backed out of talks with Motorola, and instead has started talking to M/A Com about installing an EDACS system.

Here are the correct frequencies for the Cheyenne, WY Fire Dept. trunked system. This is a Motorola Type IIi system and is really a commercial SMR that the Fire Dept. leases space on. The City of Cheyenne will start installation of a public safety Motorola Type II system in the fall of 2002. The system is expected to go "live" around the fall of 2003.
