Latest News Update Posted on 2006-03-27 06:49:01

ESK has been renabled on the system, and is in use full time across the entire wide-area network.

On 3/27/2006 at 10:00 AM CST, the system implemented new additional LCNs for the remote outlying sites across the northern areas of San Antonio and Bexar County.

The following sites received new LCNs

Hill Country: 6 new LCNs
Grey Forrest: 4 new LCNs
AMT: 2 new LCNs
Cagnon: 4 new LCNs
Topperwein: 3 new LCNs

The database has been updated with the latest LCNs, and have been confirmed using the ESK enabled version of Etrunker.

These LCNs were obviously deployed to eliminate the number of busies experienced on the northern sites due to the growth of communities into North San Antonio.

Misc System Information

NOTE: On Sunday 3/21/04 all agencies permanently migrated over to the EDACS Networked Standard ProVoice & Analog TRS from their old Motorola Type II/i Hybrid 800 Mhz TRS that had used the same frequencies.

On Sunday 3/26/06 ESK was enabled and is in use full time across the entire EDACS wide-area network.

ESK (Enhanced Security Key) restricts trunk tracking of the control channel to ESK capable scanners.

Older scanner models that do support EDACS w/ESK allow only analog TG's and not ProVoice digital to be monitored such as the PSR-500/600/700/800,Pro-107/18/668/106/197/651/652,BCD396/996XT/HP1/2 etc.

The Uniden BCD436HP/536HP and BCD325P2/996P2 mobile and Base scanners will monitor both analog and digital talkgroups on an ESK enabled system after a $50 Uniden "ProVoice" uprade has been purchased and unlocked within the radio. This $50 ProVoice upgrade option has been available since Dec 2015.

There are two simulcast layers as part of the system:

Simulcast System "BLUE" - Used exclusively by the San Antonio Police Department and the San Antonio Park Police.
Simulcast System "GOLD" - Used by the County, City Local Government, and the San Antonio Fire Department.

There are an additional 6 remote sites that provide coverage to outlying areas of the City and County. Overall system design is to provide 95% countywide coverage.

All San Antonio and Bexar County public safety and city services are using this system for communications.
