You might try listening to local air traffic control and Unicom. I am not aware of any dedicated blimp frequencies.

Have you tried Google to see if there is an copy of the manual on line? That would be my starting point. I know nothing of that radio or manufacturer

What Prompted YOU To Buy A Scanner?

It was the next logical step for me after using a hand tunable multi-band radio on VHF. I think I bought my first crystal controlled desk top scanner

An antenna cut to exact frequency you wish to receive will perform best. For most scanner use a wide band antenna will suffice.

For receiving antenna length is not as critical as it is for transmitting. Any length initially should tell him if the scanner is receiving a signal.
