Permission has been received from the FCC, to overhaul the current analog radio system that is currently in place, to a Project 25, five-site simulcast system. The new ASTRO 25 technology, will be implemented in conjunction with plans already in place by the neighboring city of Stamford, and the state of Connecticut, to implement a new statewide interoperable digital radio system. This new ASTRO 25 system, will eventually replace several older legacy radio systems that are currently in use around the state, especially in the city of Greenwich.
The current plan is to switchover the police dept. first, then the fire dept. and finally EMS will make the migration to the new system. When completed, this new system will place the city of Greenwich, on a fully functional, state-of-the-art digital data and voice interoperable radio system. Likewise, they will be able to communicate with other first responders from across the region, as the new statewide system is built-out from the west to the east across the Constitution State.
