DuPage Interoperable Radio System (DIRS)

The DuPage Interoperability Radio System (DIRS) links public safety agencies that use different frequency bands together.  The system can link an 800 MHz repeater, UHF repeater and VHF simplex frequency for cross-band interoperability.

Consolidated Dispatch Centers
DuPage Public Safety Communications (DU-COMM)

DuPage Public Safety Communications (DU-COMM) is a consolidated 9-1-1 PSAP serving over 40 public safety agencies in DuPage County and is a unit of local government.  It is totally separate from the county sheriff.  DU-COMM answers 9-1-1 calls for and provides dispatch service to the following agencies in DuPage County:

FIRE: Addison FPD (100-149), Bartlett FPD (600s), Bloomingdale (19-23?), Carol Stream FPD (27-29), Darien-Woodridge FPD (600s), Elmhurst FD (1-6), Glen Ellyn VFC(60-63), Glenside FPD*(58 & 59), Hanover Park FD(350-371), Itasca FPD (66 & 67), Lombard FD (41-88), Lisle-Woodridge FPD (51-55), Oak Brook FD (93 & 94), Oakbrook Terrace FPD (300-349), Roselle FD (500s), Villa Park FD (950-983), Warrenville FPD (150-163), West Chicago FPD (5-8), Wheaton FD (37-39), Winfield FPD (31&32), Wood Dale FPD (68 & 69) and York Center FPD (70-79).

  * Glenside FPD provides fire and EMS services to the southern half of Glendale Heights as well as to the adjoining unincorporated areas. The Bloomingdale FPD (not a DU-COMM member agency) provides fire and EMS services to the northern half of Glendale Heights and adjoining unincorporated areas.

Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glenside, Itasca, Lisle Woodridge, Oak Brook, West Chicago, Wheaton, Winfield and Wood Dale fire stations have been renumbered.  Front line units use radio IDs that match their respective station numbers (i.e. Engine 38 is housed at Station 38, etc.) and reserve units use an auxilliary number reserved for that department.  In addition, some departments have designated response areas which are irrespective of city, village or district boundries.  For example, Wheaton units respond to some areas of Winfield and Carol Stream and Winfield respond to some areas of Wheaton and Carol Stream, etc.  It is rumored that this new station/rig numbering system could eventually expand to all DU-COMM FDs.  More information on these changes will be posted to the DuPage RR Wiki page as it becomes available.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT: Elmhurst Emergency Management Agency (154.040 Elmhurst Public Works), Hanover Township Emergency Services (154.145 Fire West).  Note: Hanover Township Emergency Services is in Cook County and their operations have been heard on 154.770(D023).

StarCom21 Statewide Illinois P25    
Project 25 Phase II    		 All police zones other than 1 WEST have moved to Starcom21. Talkgroup 2738 is known as 'DU-COMM Statewide'. DU-COMM police agencies have access to tactical talkgroups DC TAC-1 - TAC-5 (2614-2619). Normal mode of operation on these TAC talkgroups is for officers to use encryption while the DU-COMM dispatcher is unencrypted. A new 700 MHz analog simplex fireground channel - "Fireground Orange" (769.00625, aka 7FTAC1D) has been programmed into New Starcom 21 radios being issued to DuPage County fire agencies. Fire agencies have access to additional fire operations and administrative talkgroups - see DuPage County on the Starcom21 page (link above).
