IDOT & the ISP number the lanes left to right L 1 is the far left lane. Quick -call is an old Motorola protocol that hasn't been used in about 20 -25 years but the name has stuck around with us. IDOT uses MDC 1200 which you hear when a unit keys up it sends a data burst at the start of the transmission to id the unit to the console. The console can send a data burst on the same FREQ so that the radio hears it and sends back an acknowledgment to the console and the mobile radio will show a ca call alert and then blow the horn to let the driver know they are wanted if they are out of the truck. All IDOT units etp & maintenance are equipped this way. Also we have a shorthand way of referring to the expressways so that NW @ Harlem is understood as outbound JFK @ Harlem. NW & SE = JFK E & W = IKE NE & SW = I 55 N & S = Dan Ryan & Eedens and I 57 & Ford
