Regional Railroads
South Kansas & Oklahoma Railroad (SKOL)

The SKOL operates freight service from a connection with BNSF and UP at Tulsa, OK North 147 miles to Iola, KS, and from Chanute to Winfield (BNSF) and Wellington (BNSF, UP), KS, 129 miles. A third line runs from Cherryvale (BNSF) to a connection with UP and the affiliated Southeast Kansas Railroad at Coffeyville, KS, 18.7 miles. SKOL also serves the Tulsa Port Authority via an 8-mile branch from Owasso, OK to the Port of Catoosa. Traffic includes grain, flour, cement and aggregates. Click Here for map.

HISTORY: The Iola line was built by the Southern Kansas Railway in the late 1870s. SKRY was leased to ATSF before the turn of the century. The Tulsa line was completed in 1905, the Wellington, KS line in the 1880s, and the Catoosa, OK branch in 1968. ATSF sold the lines to SKOL on December 28, 1990. SKOL is a subsidiary of WATCO Inc, of Coffeyville, KS.

Arkansas and Oklahoma Railroad (AOK)

On March 3, 1996 the AOK assumed the UP's operation of 69.6 miles of track owned by the State of Oklahoma. This track extends east from McAlester, through Wilburton and connects with the KCS south of Poteau near Howe. On this portion of the AOK traffic may move either via McAlester-UP or Howe-KCS.  AOK has leased track owned by the UP's yard at McAlester.

Additionally, AOK has leased the Shawnee Branch from MP446.5 at Shawnee, OK to MP482.0 near Oklahoma City, OK, a distance of 35.5 miles, since July 7, 2000. The Arkansas & Oklahoma Railroad operates 113 Miles of track in Oklahoma.

AT & L Railroad (ATLT)

The AT & L Railroad (ATLT) is owned by Wheeler Brothers Grain in Watonga to bring agricultural supplies to Watonga and area grain to market.  The line starts with a connection to the UP's Enid Sub at El Reno and extends west through Calumet, Geary, and Greenfield to Watonga. There is also a 10-mile branch from Geary to Bridgeport.

The history of the line dates to the 1880s when it was constructed as part of the Choctaw Coal & Railway Company. Prior to AT&L's startup, the line was a long-time Rock Island branch.

Blackwell Northern Gateway Railroad

The Blackwell Northern Gateway Railroad is owned by the Blackwell Industrial Authority (BIA) and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT), and is operated by US Rail Partners, Ltd.

The line begins at the south end of the Blackwell Industrial Park and connects with the UP and BNSF at Wellington, KS for a total of 35.26 miles of track.

Farmrail Corporation (FMRC)

Farmrail Corporation (FMRC)is an employee-owned, agricultural based short line railroad with headquarters in Clinton.  The Farmrail track is owned by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.   Farmrail's road consists of:

1) an east-west line (ex-Rock Island, originally part of the Rock's Memphis-Tucumcari main line) between Weatherford and Erick, OK.

2) A north-south line (ex-ATSF, originally KCM&O) extending from near Thomas (north of Clinton) through Clinton and Altus to Elmer, near the Red River.

Farmrail operates 184 miles of track in Oklahoma.

Grainbelt is a wholly owned subsidiary of Farmrail (FMRC).  The Grainbelt system consists of a former Frisco branch extending south from Enid through Clinton and Snyder to Frederick, OK.

Hollis and Eastern Railroad (HE)

The Hollis & Eastern line stems from connections with BNSF and with the Wichita, Tillman, & Jackson in Altus, west to the town of Duke where a wallboard manufacturing facility is located. The wallboard factory, operated by American Gypsum, is the railroad's primary source of traffic, although the H&E does haul seasonal movements of grain Hollis and Eastern Railroad operates 14 miles of track in Oklahoma.

Kiamichi Railroad Co. (KRR)

The Kiamichi Railroad operates freight service from a connection with KCS and UP at Hope, AR to Lakeside, OK, 186 miles; then via trackage rights, 20 miles, to a connection with BNSF at Madill, OK. A branch runs from Antlers, OK through Hugo to Paris, TX, 45 miles, connecting with the TNER at Paris. Additional connections are made with KCS at Ashdown, AR; with TOE at Valliant, OK; with UP at Durant, OK. KRR also has trackage rights over KCS at Hope, AR. On July 22, 1987, KRR started operation on 230 miles of former BN/St. Louis-San Francisco lines in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Traffic includes coal, lumber, paper, chemicals, cement, pulpwood, feed and food products. The Hugo Heritage Railroad runs seasonal scenic excursions out of Hugo, OK. The Kiamichi Railroad operates 216 miles of track in Oklahoma.

Oklahoma Railway Museum

The Oklahoma Railway Museum is located at 3400 Northeast Grand Boulevard (near NE 36th and I-35) in Oklahoma City The museum operates approximately 3 miles of track, providing passenger service on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays, April through October. The museum also operates Christmas trains in December and other special trains and yard movements throughout the year.

Sand Springs Railway Company (SSRC)

The Sand Spring Railway was built in 1911 by Charles Page to provide passenger and freight service to the Sand Springs and Tulsa communities, today it interchanges with BNSF, UP, SKO. The Sand Springs Railway Company operates 32 miles of track in Oklahoma.

Southeast Kansas Railroad Co. (SEKR)

The Southeast Kansas Railroad operates a line extending from a connection with SKOL at Bartlesville, OK to Coffeyville, KS and Nassau Jct., MO, 133.8 miles. Additional connections are made with SKOL and UP at Coffeyville; BN at Cherokee, KS; KCS at Pittsburg, KS; UP at Chetopa, KS; and M&NA at Nassau Jct., MO.

Traffic includes grain, coal, coke, sand, lumber, plastic, paper products and resin.

This former Missouri Pacific branch was built in the 1880s. MP sold the line from Coffeyville to Nassau Junction, and short line service started April 13, 1987. The line from Coffeyville to Bartlesville was acquired in 1994.

The Southeast Kansas Railroad operates 3 miles of track in Oklahoma.

Stillwater Central Railroad (SLWC)

The SLWC operates over 275 miles of track in Oklahoma, primarily handling mined, mineral, and industrial products.

Texas, Oklahoma & Eastern Railroad (TOE) / De Queen and Eastern Railroad (DEQ)

The Texas, Oklahoma & Eastern Railroad was incorporated October 21, 1910, and opened from Valliant to Broken Bow, 24 miles, on July 15, 1911. The final 15.3 miles from Broken Bow to West Line, AR opened in 1921. Passenger service ended in 1948. The TOE is operated in conjunction with the DeQueen & Eastern Railroad from a connection with the DeQueen & Eastern at West Line, AR to a connection with the Kiamichi Railroad at Valliant, OK, 39.82 miles. The De Queen & Eastern Railroad was incorporated September 22, 1900. It opened from De Queen to Provo, AR in 1903 and to Dierks, AR in September, 1906. The entire line was opened by 1921 except for the final ten miles into Perkins which opened in 1957. Passenger service was discontinued in 1948. The DQE operates freight service from West Line to DeQueen and Perkins, AR, 45.3 miles. Connections are made with Texas, Oklahoma & Eastern, KCS, and UP. Traffic is forest products, gypsum board, grain and paper. Both railroads are owned by the Weyerhauser Company. De Queen and Eastern Railroad operates 58 miles of track in Oklahoma.

Tulsa-Sapulpa Union Railway Co. (TSU)

The Tulsa-Sapulpa Union Railway Co. (TSU) is one of Oklahoma's oldest operating railroads with origins dating back to 1907. The railroad operates track between Tulsa and Sapulpa. It serves the St. Gobain Glass Plant, Prescor Inc., Greenbay Packaging Inc, Atlantis Plastics, CG Martin Company and Technotherm Corporation. TSU also operates track between Tulsa and Jenks on behalf of the UP. This serves Sinclair Oil Refinery, Kentube, Word Industries, Pepsi Cola Co., and Kimberly Clark Corporation. The Tulsa-Sapulpa Union Railway Co. (TSU) operates 23 miles of track in Oklahoma.

Switching and Terminal Railroads
Cimarron Valley Railroad (CVR)

The Cimarron Valley Railroad is based in Satanta, Kansas, and consists of the former Santa Fe C.V. and Manter Subdivisions (Dodge City, KS - Boise City, OK and Satanta to Springfield, CO, respectively). Traffic is mostly grain and agricultural, but the company handles some chemical and general merchandise traffic as well.

CVR operates 35 miles of track in Oklahoma.

Northwestern Oklahoma Railroad (NOKL)

Based in Woodward, the Northwestern Oklahoma Railroad connects with the BNSF. Its major customer is a car rebuilding facility located in Woodward. The railroad owns a sizeable car fleet and its cars can be found operating on class ones, regionals, and other shortlines throughout North America. The railroad's only locomotive is a 65-ton GE center-cab switcher . The NOKL operates 4.8 miles of trackage in Oklahoma.

Southwestern Railroad Co. (SW)

Southwestern Railroad 's Shattuck branch is based in Perryton, located in the northeast corner of the Texas panhandle. This branch of the Southwestern is operated separately from the copper-hauling shortline of the same name based in Hurley, New Mexico. The Shattuck Branch diverges from the BNSF Panhandle Subdivision a few miles east of the Texas-Oklahoma border at Shattuck, OK, heading northwest through Darrouzett and Perryton to the line's western terminus at Spearman. Santa Fe sold this line, its former Shattuck Subdivision, to the Southwestern in 1990. Principal traffic on the Shattuck branch is grain. SW has 9 miles of track in Oklahoma.

Wichita, Tillman and Jackson Railway Co. (WTJR)

The Wichita, Tillman, and Jackson Railway Company is composed of a former UPRR branch line and a Rock Island line operating in Texas and Oklahoma. The railroad interchanges with the UP and BNSF in Wichita Falls. Shipments are predominately grain, chemicals and agricultural products.

WTJR is a subsidary of the Rio Grande Pacific Corp. and operates 82 miles of track in Oklahoma.

WFEC Railroad (WFCX)

Western Farmers Electric Cooperative Railroad exists to assist in the transportation of coal to one of WFEC's electric generating plants in Hugo, OK. All operations and maintenance of the railroad are contracted out to the Texas, Oklahoma, and Eastern Railroad in DeQueen, Arkansas. WFEC does not own or operate any locomotive or railcars.

WFEC operates 14 miles of track in Oklahoma.
